What is a Qualified Interpreter?

"Qualified Interpreter" is defined as an interpreter who, via Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) service or an on-site appearance, is able to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially, both receptively and expressively, using any necessary specialized vocabulary. This includes Sign Language Interpreters, Oral Transliterators, and Cued-Speech Transliterators.

Effective Communication
  • Communication must be as effective with individuals whom are Deaf as with other people who can hear.

  • Auxillary aids & services includes interpreters.

  • For a Public Entity, the priority must be given to client's preferred method. 

  • For a Private Entity, the communication must be effective.
